We offer many types of Sedation to keep you pain free and relaxed
Your comfort is our primary concern. Our office offers a full range of anesthetic options from local anesthesia to intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss and describe your procedure and anesthetic options with you. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario establishes the standards for office anesthesia and inspects individual offices. Our facility is fully equipped and our staff and Surgeons fully trained to provide the full range of anesthesia options offered in Ontario.
Nitrous Oxide
Commonly known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is used to keep the patient calm and worry free while still being conscious of their surroundings. This sedation level is used for most minor procedures.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation comes in the form of a tablet that can be taken the night before the procedure and an hour before to help ease anxiety. It is similar to Nitrous Oxide as the patient is relaxed but aware of their surroundings. A ride to and from the office is required. This mild form of sedation is reserved for minor procedures and your doctor will advise you before the procedure commences if this is the right anaesthesia for you.
Intravenous Sedation
IV access is obtained in the patient’s hand or arm and a cocktail of medications is injected to achieve sedation. The patient may be drifting in and out of sleep, and many patients actually fall asleep with this modality. This anaesthetic option is ideal for patients who require a deeper level of sedation than the nitrous oxide or oral sedation, but are not ideal candidates for general anaesthesia.
General Anaesthetic
General Anaesthetic will render the patient unconscious during the procedure and is a similar level of anaesthesia you would receive during a surgical procedure in a hospital. Our surgeons will be constantly monitoring your vital signs and adjusting the anaesthesia as needed throughout the procedure. Detailed arrangements will be made with you in person if you require this level of anesthetic for your procedure and our team will walk you through every step well in advance of the surgery date so you are completely prepared.
